Compacting powders, which are critical in industries such as metal, advanced ceramic and pharmiceutical manufacturing, will be studied in real time using advanced neutron diffraction techniques. This will allow the three-dimensional mapping of stresses and strains within small volumes of the powder deep inside realistic compaction equipment.
