英文摘要
This proposal is for analytical equipment that will allow us to quantify minute changes in a large number of different metabolites in biological samples.  This will have broad applicalability in projects that examine the properties of natural and mutant strains of bacteria, the effect of altered gene expression in animal and bacterial samples or the concentration of key metabolites in response to experimental manipulation.  These data will help us to understand how experimental changes affect cellular physiology and metabolism. The proposed equipment will be particularly useful for the study of pathogenic strains of E. coli as these the unique metabolic characteristics of the strains have not yet been examined in detail.
