英文摘要
Every time a species goes extinct, so do all its unique genes.  If we value genetic information, then we should worry about this loss.  Some species (like the panda) have no close relatives: were it to go extinct, we would lose much more unique genetic information than, if say, the black bear were lost.  Our research asks whether species that are most threatened also contain more unique genetic history.  We also ask which countries and parks contain the most unique genetic information for different groups of animals.  We believe this will help us make conservation decisions, by concentrating some effort on those taxa whose loss will cost us most.
