Differential global positioning system

In this proposal, the applicant requests a differential Global Positioning System (GPS) that will be used in conjunction with traditional optical equipment (i.e., total station) for conducting field surveys in mountain stream channels. Such equipment configuration will allow the applicant to obtain high-resolution mapping of the channel network, landslide and debris flow features, and the effects that these impart on the fluvial environment. The equipment will be housed in the Department of Geography, Carleton University. In the Canadian context of Earth and Environmental Sciences, this research project will be crucial for advancing our understanding of how landslides modulate landscape evolution, and impact forest management, aquatic ecology, and river restoration in mountain drainage basins.
