Genetic history of human populations

We present a long-term research program that aims at characterizing the genetic structure of present-day human populations using genetic information from segments of the X-chromosome. Our colleagues following a similar line of work with mtDNA and Y-chromosome have been collecting data for more than two decades in numerous laboratories all over the world. We want to complement this global effort by providing new information from the nuclear genome using X-linked variation. So far this work has provided unusually interesting results, complementing previous findings from other genetic systems such as mtDNA and the Y-chromosome, and most importantly bringing quantitatively new data leading to new hypotheses and views of human population history.
