Civil infrastructure is the backbone for economic activity of any society. It is especially important for Canada due to its vastness and extreme weather conditions. Steel and concrete have been the construction materials of choice for decades but corrosion of steel and the accompanying structural damage have posed great challenge to the engineering community which has responded with the development of newer materials such as epoxy coated steel bars, stainless steel bars and fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets, wraps and bars. Research on the short-term and long-term performance of these materials has provided encouraging results but their behaviour under extreme temperatures especially for FRPs is not well-understood because of very limited available experimental data on their performance.
