The research programs of Moore and Roulet deal with biogeochemistry, hydrology and soils involving field measurements, laboratory experiments and modeling in both upland and wetland systems. Over the past decade, these have involved studies in the Experimental Lakes Area, the La Grande and Eastmain regions of northern Quebec, peatlands in eastern Quebec and Labrador, but in the past 5 years have focused more closely on sites near Montreal. In particular, Moore has worked on trace gas exchange in upland forests near Montreal and Roulet has worked on hydrology of drainage basins at Mont Ste. Hilaire. Much of our effort, however, is concentrated on the Mer Bleue peatland, located 10 km east of Ottawa, which was established a decade ago and is part of the Fluxnet Canada/Canadian Carbon Program sites at which eddy covariance measurements are made. Our process-oriented research at this scientifically productive site requires frequent visits, for measurements of gas exchange, plant growth, hydrology and manipulation, such as the long-term fertilization experiment, as well as hydrology and biogeochemistry at Mont St. Hilaire.
