Hypercholesterolemia is the main risk factor of cardiovascular diseases that is a major cause of death in Western society. The invention consists to develop new chitosan derivatives from a new patented technology o synthesis. These derivatives will allow decreasing of blood cholesterol level by precipitation of bile acids in intestine with low side effects. The synthesized product is an improvement of low molecular weight (LMW) chitosan already used for low to moderate hypercholesterolemia. Developed synthesis methodologies will also be useful for the utilization of chitosan derivatives in various applications.
