Chemical reactions are at the heart of chemistry. Decades of research on this topic (recognized through several Nobel Prizes) have led to recent proposals for the laser control and the laser interrogation of chemical reactions at their most fundamental level. We propose several studies designed to enhance our understanding of the nature of chemical reactions, to improve our ability to manipulate molecules to produce desirable and useful chemical products, and to understand the nature of molecular processes.
