The goal of this research is to examine and develop control systems for the next generation of small satellites which have been termed "microsatellites" or "microspacecraft". This term is usually reserved for satellites with a mass of less than 100 kg. Even smaller are nanosatellites with a mass of less than 10 kg. The primary motivation for these classes of vehicles is the ability to accomplish what larger, more expensive spacecraft can with a significantly less expensive approach.
