Like surface waves on the ocean, internal waves move up and down due to gravity. As their name suggests, they do not exist at the surface of the ocean but rather inside it, existing because the density increases with depth due to temperature and salinity variations. Likewise, internal waves exist in the atmosphere due to temperature variations. This proposal aims to develop a better understanding of internal gravity waves that are generated by collapsing mixed regions and which themselves mix the atmosphere and ocean where they break.
