Roof edge systems include components and its interface with the roof assembly. Technologies cover designt ools and test procedures.This proposal addresses Roof Edge Systems and Technologies and abbreviated as:REST. REST is the first line of defence for wind effects on roofs. In Canada, Built-Up Roofs (BUR) is the most commonly used assemblies in low-slope roofs. There is significant growth and changes from the conventional BUR to Mechanically Attached Roofing Sytems (MARS) and Adhesive Applied Roofing Systems(AARS).These innovations contributed to the reduction of labour intensity, extended roof construction processin cold weather conditions and controlled moisture migration issues in the roof assembly. However, at present, no evaluation standards or desing procedures are available for the Canadian Roofing community to quantify the dynamic windup lift resistance of the REST. Investigation from the recent hurricanes (Charley, Katrina and IKE) identified major REST's failures (RICOWI2006,2007,2010 and Baskaraneta12007andGraham,2004).The present proposal is an extension of the existing CRDPJ305819 to address the research needs of the REST. The aim of the present proposal is to develop test methods,numerical models and design tools for the benefit of the roofing community. This is a private, federal and university partnership project. In such,the graduate students will acquire the oretical knowledge at the university; perform experiments at the unique NRC lab facilities and gain practical experiences by interacting with industrial partners.
