Our research will investigate using solvent free coatings to provide additional corrosion protection for zinc nanostructured alloy surfaces. The combination of these two high performance techniques will provide environmentally friendly approaches to protect metal parts from corrosion. The combination of these technologies provides a way of avoiding the use of two traditional corrosion protection methods based on cadmium and chromate. Both cadmium and chromate based materials are effective for preventing corrosion but both have also been identified as possible or recognized carcinogens. By providing alternatives to the use of these hazardous materials we will provide obvious health related benefits to workers and the general public but will also be able to put Canadian industry in a position where it can be experts in a high demand,
