This proposal is to initiate a collaboration between the University of Winnipeg and IMRIS, which is a company based in Winnipeg specializing in advanced medical imaging equipment. One of the company's latest products - the IMRIS neurovascular suite - combines X-ray angiography with a special magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner that can be moved in and out of the operating room on demand, allowing doctors to acquire new images mid-surgery without having to move the patient. The combination of X-ray and MRI technology will be particularly useful for the diagnosis and treatment assessment of stroke. It is hoped that the further addition of intravascular MR imaging capabilities will greatly improve the current treatment decision criteria for stroke.
