With this proposals, we plan to study a class of materials of molecular crystals condensed from free radicals (FRACS). In spite of their name, they are formed from molecules that are stable at room temperature which can be condensed into solids. They got their name from the fact that their molecular building blocks are missing one electron for a full shell. As consequence of this unfilled shell, these molecules posses a magnetic moment, similar to that of rare earth metals. Consequently, FRACS are fully organic magnets. The study of this class of materials has the potential to initiate a paradigm change how electronic materials are built: Instead of starting from atoms we could be starting from molecules.
