The discipline of ecotoxicology has not advanced greatly in incorporating ecological theory into the areas of water quality and ecosystem protection. This is especially so when we are trying to create relevant bioassays and biomarkers to characterize and predict effect from toxicants in aquatic systems. This work will explore not only our understanding of ecosystems and how they function, but will develop tools to help protect the integrity of Canadian freshwater ecosystems.
