CO2 is considered to have a major contribution to the global climate change. About one third of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions come from fossil fuels used for energy generation. In addition, various industrial processes (oil refineries, cement works, iron & steel sector and aluminum production) annually emit huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. In Canada, CEPA (Canadian Environmental Protection Act) is the legislative authority that pushes the companies to reduce their greenhouse gas production. The concept of CO2 capture and sequestration has recently attracted a considerable interest in the CO2 emissions reduction. The aim of CO2 capture is to separate the pure gas from different gaseous mixtures in order to produce a concentrated stream ready for sequestration or further use. A very interesting and efficient alternative to CO2 sequestration by chemical recycling is the carbon dioxide conversion into valuable products like dimethyl ether (DME).
