Understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies is one of the primary objectives of contemporary cosmology. Galaxies are diverse complex systems containing stars, gas, dust and vast amounts of dark matter. Dark matter is unobserved mass whose presence is deduced by its gravitational influence on surrounding material; however the detailed properties of dark matter remain elusive. I am interested in understanding how the observed properties of galaxies (colours, shapes, stellar content) depend on the distribution of dark matter that surrounds them.
