There are records of the food we have eaten and the places we have been stored in our bones and teeth. These records are called isotope signatures. They are there because our bones and teeth have been formed from the foods we have eaten over our lifetimes and the isotope signatures from those foods have been embedded in our body tissues. We can use these signatures in living humans and animals to determine what the foods they ate were, and especially where they were living when their teeth or bones were formed.
