Low Impact Development (LID) technology is a relatively new stormwater management strategy developed to reduce or eliminate the need for traditional stormwater infrastructure. One popular LID is porous pavement because it can treat stormwater both in terms of water quantity and quality on site. Porous pavement is a pavement with a high permeability and thus, can collect, store and treat stormwater runoff. The system allows stormwater to flow from the surface to a sub-structure (the region spanning from the bottom of surface pavement layer to the top of the subgrade and includes the bedding layer and reservoir course and a geotextile). The water finally reaches a subdrain or is allowed to further infiltrate into the surrounding soil to recharge groundwater if there is no impervious liner.
