Industries are faced with increasing regulation and costs related to their by-products. Although anaerobic treatment of many organic wastes would be a beneficial treatment method, it is not widely used by industry because the wastes do not have sufficient buffering capacity or nutrients to ensure stable operation. Partnership of industry with municipal wastewater treatment plants that involves anaerobic co-digestion of organic wastes can benefit both industry and the municipality.
