Control and Management for Next Generation Networks

The structure of today's Internet imposes several limitations: it cannot deliver the potential of emerging technologies such as wireless communications; it does not provide any guarantees on availability and reliability; it is intrinsically unsecure; identifying the root causes of problems is extremely difficult in the current Internet; economic incentives for peering are not easy to manage, and create; and in order to keep up with the growing demands, it needs more and more power, and becomes more costly over time. Recently, there has been a tremendous amount of interest in a clean slate design for the Internet to address these problems. One promising idea is to use Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) that has attracted a lot of attention both from academia and industry.
