Optimizing the ergonomic design of interactive tables for collaboration activities

Waterloo Furniture Components Limited (KVW), recently purchased by Knape & Vogt, designs and manufactures ergonomic supports for office and computer work stations. KVW wishes to better understand emerging issues in office/computer ergonomics in order to continue to develop its product line, and grow its market share. An opportunity of interest to KVW is the emerging field of interactive tabletops and large-screen touch monitors for collaborative activities. At present, little has been established in the way of physical and cognitive ergonomic guidelines for the adjustability and use of interactive tabletops for collaborative activities involving two or more users. KVW recognizes that it can reduce risk of improper design by partnering with Dr. Carolyn MacGregor, Director of the Usability & Interactive Technology (Use-IT) Lab of the University of Waterloo, who will conduct experimental research to establish design guidelines pertaining to adjustable collaborative tabletops.
