Biomass is a promising alternative for producing green renewable power as well as value added materials. Torftech Inc. Torbed reactor has proven very effective in processing different biomass material. Its effectiveness however is hindered in some cases by challenges in material handing and feeding to the reactor. This limits opportunities for commercialization of processes that could take advantage of the reactor capabilities. The purposes of this proposal is to investigate options to optimize design and operating parameters of the reactor feed treatment and handling system to enable achievement of full process automation using challenging material such as switch grass and rice straw. A successful demonstration of the technology is expected to lead to significant follow-up investments from Torftech and its partners to build full-scale automated units for biomass processing. This technology will be manufactured in Canada and exported to various countries around the globe for processing of wide range of biomass material.
