Tectonic evoluiton of sedimentary basins in orogens

Sedimentary rocks provide records of tectonic events in orogens (mountain belts). My research uses the evidence in sedimentary rocks to draw conclusions about the tectonic processes that led to orogenesis (mountain building). The work is multidisciplinary, and involves the analysis of data from: field mapping; measuring successions of strata; analysis of seismic data to image the subsurface structure; and detrital zircon geochronology, to gain information about sediment provenance. Work is focussed on the Appalachian/Caledonide orogen of Eastern Canada and NW Europe, but additional studies will follow up previous work in the Canadian Cordillera. Undergraduate and graduate students working on these projects will gain exceptional experience integrating laboratory and field techniques in diverse regions.
