项目摘要
This program aims to provide quantitative characterization of the quark-gluon plasma formed at RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, Brookhaven), and soon to be studied at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider, Geneva). Colliding large nuclei at relativistic energies remains the only practical way of studying hot and dense strongly interacting matter in the laboratory. This program therefore contributes to the effort which seeks to map out the phase diagram of QCD (Quantum Chromodynamics: The theory of the strong interaction). The RHIC facility has already produced a variety of fascinating results that indicate we have gone through a doorway into new physics. It is the purpose of this proposal to spell out the theoretical effort required for the understanding of these new features. We focus on rare and penetrating probes: electromagnetic radiation and QCD jets. We also will pursue the non-perturbative evaluation of transport coefficients, using string techniques.
该计划旨在提供在RHIC(布鲁克海文的相对论重离子对撞机)中形成的夸克-胶子等离子体的定量表征,并很快在LHC(日内瓦的大型强子对撞机)中进行研究。在相对论能量下碰撞大的原子核仍然是在实验室中研究热而致密的强相互作用物质的唯一可行的方法。因此,该计划有助于努力寻求绘制QCD(量子色动力学:强相互作用理论)的相图。
