This project is intended to solve the specific problem of developing novel peptide-protein interaction assay protocols for the surface plasmon resonance based interaction analysis system from Nicoya Lifesciences. Nicoya is interested in expanding the applications of their system to the thermodynamic and kinetic analysis of biomolecular interactions for the research market and the Dieckmann laboratory is experienced in using surface based methods for the study of specific protein-peptide interactions. This project utilizes the well characterized interactions between the protein Calmodulin and peptides based on the Calmodulin binding region of nitric oxide synthase to develop optimal procedures for the immobilization of the peptides, to develop assays that allow the measurement of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters and to optimize and measure sensor performance. Successful completion of this project will put Nicoya and Canada in a strong position to expand applications of this novel sensor platform into the research market.
