Firestone Textiles Company, a division of Bridgestone Canada Inc. ("Firestone Textiles") manufactures and sells the product: Nylon-6, sold in both resin and yarn form. One of the primary uses of their products are woven Nylon-6 fabrics, which are used widely to enhance the strength and durability of tires. Firestone Textiles would like to redefine the production (i.e., polymerization) process used to produce Nylon-6 in their Woodstock, ON plant in order to improve efficiency and diversify product lines. The research funded by this Engage Grant will be directed at better understanding how various process inputs effect final product performance and developing ideal input set points to meet final product specifications. This information will be used by Firestone Textiles to improve efficiency with the intended effect of making their products more competitive within the tire industry and to develop new products based on the Nylon-6 they produce using the ideal input setpoints discovered as a result of this research partnership.
