High-speed oscilloscope for next-generation quantum information processing and communication

This grant funds a purchase of an advanced fast oscilloscope, enabling the Institute for Quantum Computing to design and study next generation of quantum communication and processing technologies. The instrument will be shared between the quantum communication and security lab, and two superconducting quantum information devices labs. Digital communication and quantum information processing technologies are getting faster all the time, running now at multi-gigahertz clock rates. To keep up with this progress and satisfy experimental requirements for the leading-edge research, we need a wideband advanced oscilloscope daily to probe and analyse fast signals in multiple systems and experiments in our labs. This research advances our civilization to the next level of capabilities in quantum communication and quantum information processing technologies. Canada, being a high-technology society and industrial economy, cannot afford to miss on these advances.
