Automotive fuel cell stacks are currently being manufactured in a clean room environment with a controlled temperature and humidity. Critical fuel cell components can take a significant amount of time to equilibrate with the clean room environment and during this time their dimensions change as they absorb water. Accordingly, they cannot be used in the manufacturing process until they have equilibrated and achieved dimensional stability. The goal of this research project is to further develop a test method to determine the specific time needed for a given component, which will enable more efficient material handling in the process.
