Autodesk is a world leader in design and engineering software. Their new generation of engineering tools use
artificial intelligence to achieve Goal Driven Design (GDD). With GDD, the engineer specifies to a computer
the properties of a desired object and the computer designs this object. This is particularly time saving for
designing mechanisms. In this project, we would like to use constraint programming to achieve GDD. More
specifically, we would like a constraint solver to automatically find out what is the best mechanism that allows
a point to follow, as closely as possible, a trajectory specified by the engineers. The prototype we want to
develop will allow a the user to enforce geometric constraints on the object such as its dimensions and the
relative positions of its components as well as constraints issued from stress analysis.
