项目摘要

The Canadian Prairies and Saskatchewan in particular are centres for staple crop production. Canadian grains, pulses and oil seed are shipped to destinations all over the world. Farmers are increasingly investing in smart agricultural products to help them manage their costs by more efficiently applying inputs such as water seed and fertilizer to their land. However, there are a shortage of tools to help a producer manage the sale of his/her agricultural product. Agriculture Exchange Inc (AgEx) is a relatively young company in Saskatchewan founded to serve this need by providing an automated web-based marketplace and data repository for transactional agricultural information. Cross linking this transactional information with other databases such as soil or weather information might allow AgEx to provide substantial value add to producers and buyers alike, if correlations can be discovered amongst the various data sources. This project will catalogue relevant data sources, and perform a proof of concept integration and data mining experiment with at least one. Providing Canadian farmers with the tools now commonly used in other business segments around the world will provide them with a key competitive advantage moving forward.
