Capital Power Corporation is one of Alberta's principal power generation companies. It is a growth-oriented North American power producer headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. The company develops, acquires, operates and optimizes power generation from a variety of energy sources (coal, wind, natural gas). Coal-based power plants must adhere to a number of emission regulations. Capital Power pulse jet fabric filter baghouse cleaning systems are under performing with respect to design specifications. A proper functioning system would eliminate a greater number of particulates being released that affect air quality. The proposed project will assess through computational fluid dynamic modeling and small scale experiments the mechanics of the bag cleaning process and propose possible solutions to rectify the problem.
