英文摘要
The innate immune system is the first line of defense against invading disease-causing organisms, acting to protect animals immediately following infection. It is also an important regulator, which influences vaccine efficacy, autoimmunity, and inflammatory responses. We are pursuing novel uses for Phytospherix (PHX), a glycogen-based nanoparticle that is natural, biodegradable, non-toxic and easily modifiable. The current NSERC Engage Plus will fund research to investigate the role of PHX in controlling innate immune responses in animals, including fish and human cells. This work has long-term implications for developing novel antiviral therapies, vaccine adjuvants and anti-inflammatory drugs.
