This proposal seeks funds to upgrade the capabilities of a SQUID magnetometer housed in McMaster University's Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research. These upgrades include a refurbishment of the SQUID probe, most notably a repair of the vacuum sleeve surrounding the sample space which has degraded over the past 30 years such that operation at temperatures above room temperature is no longer feasible. In addition to restoring this much demanded capability, we will add a precise sample rotation capability so that single crystal specimens can be oriented with high precision with respect to the external magnetic field of the magnetometer. This sample rotation capability is critically important for the study of highly anisotropic materials and will be unique in Canada.
