Recent advances in the mobile and sensor technologies have started to give rise to research and development
that takes advantage of learner's location, environment, proximity and situation to contextualize the learning
process. Adaptivity and personalization in these ubiquitous scenarios have taken on a new meaning by bringing
authenticity, through seamless integration of physical objects available in the learner's vicinity with virtual
information in real-time. Such environments not only break barriers to education by widening access to those
who cannot attend a physical classroom but also increase the richness of instruction by integrating multiple
sources of instruction, contextualization and real-time location-aware learning, hence overcoming the
limitations of classroom learning. Ubiquitous learning is an emerging area and a number of research directions
are evolving as research continues. This Chair program focuses on research for creating an infrastructure that
enables learners, teachers and trainers to engage in effective learning and instruction processes where learners
and trainees undertake instructional activities in authentic on-site situations outside of classroom. The proposed
research program will design, develop and implement ubiquitous learning analytics methods and techniques to
investigate and analyze learning/training progress in authentic ubiquitous learning environments and enable
instructional interventions as and when difficulties in the learning/training process are identified.
