英文摘要
Converting and controlling electric power using power electronic converters (PECs) have become essential stages in various industrial systems and processes. The operation of any PEC is achieved by generating signals to switch ON and OFF sets of solid-state switches, which are the main components of any PEC. Several switching methods (called modulation techniques) have been developed for operating and controlling PECs, among which are the pulse-width modulation (PWM), space vector modulation (SVM), and hysteresis-band current control (HBCC). Despite their abilities to operate PECs in various applications and adapt to different controllers, PWM, SVM, HBCC and other techniques suffered reduced magnitudes of their outputs and sensitivities to non-linear loads. As of late, a new modulation technique has been developed based on wavelet functions for operating single and three phase PECs. This new technique is called the wavelet modulation (WM) technique that has shown remarkable abilities to: i) improve the quality of outputs (reduced harmonic components), ii) increase magnitudes of desired output components, iii) maximize the energy transfer from the input side to the output side, iv) simplify the implementation (carrier signals and pre-defined switching patterns are not required), and v) improve the overall efficiency of PECs. This research project aims to develop and test a new family of controllers for single and three phase PECs operated by the WM, PWM, SVM, and HBCC techniques. The proposed family of controllers will be designed using the phaselet functions, which are capable of accurate, responsive, and simplified processing of signals with high distortions and non-linearities (similar to currents and voltages in PECs). The development of phaselet-based controllers will offer operating and controlling single and three phase AC-DC and DC-AC PECs to meet industry standards of high performance and efficiency, along with feasible implementation requirements. Such features can be key tools for improving performances of renewable energy systems, power supplies, micro grids, high performance motor drives, storage systems, electric and hybrid vehicles command and control, and other industrial applications.
