Creating software products which only possess "useful" features is very demanding. Often, products have many features which are either rarely or never used. This obviously implies that the cost of production is inflated and the time to market is delayed. Answering the question "will this feature be used?" - can only be addressed by running experiments in conjunction with the customer base. Hence, software production methodologies need to be transformed into methodologies which are customer- and experiment-centric. Hence, we need mechanisms to recruit and maintain a customer base and methods of interactions with them (experiments) to retrieve essential data to learn about what they really want and which features will actually be successful in meeting their desires. This proposal attempts to design such a methodology, and subsequently use this methodology in a real world scenario - build a successful product with a Canadian software company.
