Child Login Research using FIDO public key authentication

Nearly all Canadian children are online outside of school. Although parents enable this increased access, they also express worry. In 2000, Canadian parents were primarily enthusiastic about the opportunities offered to children through increased connectivity, but by 2011 the sentiment had shifted to one of insecurity and fear for their children (Steeves, 2012). To-date, little attention has been paid to this important problem by the security research community. We are particularly interested in the area of user authentication for children. Working together with Bluink, we will design and prototype a user authentication mechanism for children where the parent can remotely provide the authentication credentials, therefore removing the need for children to remember and enter passwords but still enabling secure authentication.
