L'industrie canadienne du plastique et du caoutchouc est un secteur industriel majeur au Canada et au Québec.Bien que le Canada produise moins de 2% en volume de la production mondiale de plastique il n'en demeurepas moins que ce secteur représente plus de 20 milliards de dollars dont 40% sont destinés à l'exportation.Depuis quelques décennies et compte tenu de l'impact environnemental des plastiques, les différents paliers degouvernement ont mis en place des politiques visant à favoriser la récupération et la réutilisation des plastiques.Parmi les plastiques les plus utilisés au monde et donc, potentiellement recyclables, se trouvent lespolyéthylènes utilisés dans une pléthore d'applications d'usage courant, à durée de vie relativement courte, telsque les sachets, les récipients alimentaires et les contenants pour produits chimiques pour ne citer qu'eux.Soucy Techno, entreprise basée à Sherbrooke au Québec, valorise les polyéthylènes recyclés en élaborant desmélanges-maîtres ou concentrés à base de noir de carbone. Ces mélanges sont destinés à renforcer d'autresrésines plastiques pour diverses nouvelles applications. Les polyéthylènes se déclinent en 3 grandes catégories(HDPE, LLDPE et LDPE) qui, elles-mêmes, se divisent en des dizaines de sous catégories formulées pours'adapter aux techniques de transformation usuelles utilisées pour l'élaboration de produits semi-finis ou finis(extrusion, injection, thermoformage, etc..). Malheureusement, il est encore, à l'heure actuelle, très difficile deséparer les différents polyéthylènes. Le polyéthylène recyclé est donc souvent un mélange de polyéthylènerendant difficile l'élaboration de concentrés adaptés aux techniques de mise en oeuvre pour lesquelles ils sontdestinés. Ce projet de recherche vise donc à caractériser la composition, la teinte, le comportementthermo-rhéologique et la dégradation par oxydation des polyéthylènes recyclés entrants et des mélanges maîtresou concentrés polyéthylène recyclé/noir de carbone. L'objectif principal de Soucy Techno est d'avoir unmeilleur contrôle des matières premières, d'optimiser sa fabrication et d'offrir à ses clients des concentrés quirépondent aux exigences.
