Boronized steels are widely used in oil and gas production, power generation, and the petrochemical andchemical processing industry due to their resistance to corrosion, acid, abrasive wear, heat and their highsurface hardness. Because boron has a high neutron absorption cross section, there is a potential to expand theuse of boronized steel to nuclear industry applications, such as corrosion-resistant radiation shielding materials.In these applications the corrosion behaviour of these materials when exposed to ionizing radiation needs to beunderstood. However, no data on radiolysis-induced corrosion of boronized steel is available.This project explores the impact of gamma radiolysis water as a function of solution pH on the corrosiondynamics of boronized steel. The data obtained from this analysis will provide information that can be used toassess the potential for expanding the use of boronized steels to nuclear industry applications.
