Sensible Building Science and Professor Tamara Munzner will collaborate to solve a new and pressingproblem for facility managers. Currently, many facility decisions are based on labour intensive manual methodsfor tracking resource decisions. Facility managers responsible for services such as custodial or scheduling, needdecision-support systems that will streamline their ability to allocate resources. The business opportunity issignificant in terms of reducing facility expenditures. The combined cost of security, administrative, janitorialand utilities costs represents a substantial burden to building managers and owners. A BOMA 2016 studyrevealed that the average facility operation cost is US$8.62 psf, and within their 900 million square feet surveyfor US and Canada, this cost exceeds US$74 billion. Sensible brings experience and expertise to connectoccupant intensity and facility data, along with facility costing knowledge. SBS will leverage ProfessorMunzner's R&D capabilities to accelerate the design of visual decision-support tools which enable on-demandresponse for facility managers based on past, real-time, and predictive occupancy data.
