Mineral processing deals with separation of valuables (metal-containing minerals, coal and bitumen) from waste rocks or sands and their enrichment by physical forces to extract valuables essential for daily life and civilization. The renewal of CRC in Mineral Processing is to build a scientific foundation and demonstrate innovative concepts for effective and responsible utilization of limited mineral, coal and oil sands resources. Our research will help minimize environmental consequences of natural resource development by reducing energy intensity and greenhouse gas emissions of mineral processing, and at the same time train skillful labor forces for this important industry.
