This research program suggests new statistical methodologies to improve our understanding of the complex world that we live in. Innovative models, based on copulas, are built to characterize environmental phenomena such as tree distribution and wood abundance. Directional statistics are used to provide a better geometrical description of human joints with the hope of improving orthopaedic treatments and of manufacturing prostheses that fit better. In survey sampling, new methods of analysis for social survey data collected by statistical agencies are presented; they will give additional insights into the important social phenomena that are captured by these surveys.
