Mark Taylor, Canada Research Chair in Molecular Recognition and Catalysis, heads an interdisciplinary research program motivated by two major objectives: (1) understanding details of the interactions between molecules (molecular recognition); (2) exploiting such interactions to develop new types of catalysts for the preparation of valuable products from simple starting materials. Work towards the first objective will provide insights crucial to efforts in diverse fields, from drug design to nanotechnology and materials science. The second aim will enable radical improvements in efficiency for the discovery and production of complex molecules to be used as therapeutic agents or probes of biological function.
