The objectives of the research programme are to advance the understanding of continental formation and evolution, and early Earth tectonic processes, using inferences from detailed regional models of 3D seismic structure. The research will use a variety of seismic modelling techniques initially, including both individual complementary methods and joint-analysis techniques to image the crust and upper mantle beneath eastern North America. Later in the term of the programme, the research will also expand its scope into multidisciplinary studies, using both geophysical and geochemical data sets to provide a more complete picture of the evolution of eastern North America.
