Understanding our environment is crucial to a successful future for our society. The atmosphere is a primary influence on our environment and this research program studies the composition of the atmosphere using many techniques, all of which observe from a distance and are therefore called "remote sounding". These measurements enable us to monitor the state of the atmosphere and obtain early warning of any changes that might affect human health or the economy. Using satellites and ground based observations this research program seeks to advance our understanding of our own atmosphere and that of other planets using the latest instrumentation.
