英文摘要
The overall research focus is groundwater in the cold environments that are heavily influenced by snow, frozen soil, and permafrost. This is an emerging area of research, where interests are rapidly growing due to the sensitive response of these environments to the climate variability and the need to predict the sustainability of water resources. Dr. Hayashi will conduct research in the Canadian Rockies to understand how groundwater stores glacier melt and snowmelt and buffers the impacts of climate change on river flow. He will also study how snowmelt water recharges aquifers in the Prairies, and how groundwater interacts with permafrost in northern Canada.
