英文摘要
The rise in anthropogenic CO2 is altering global climate and we must improve our predictive capabilities to decide on optimal societal responses. The ocean plays a critical role in regulating Earth's climate by controlling atmospheric CO2 and redistributing solar heat. Studying the distribution of trace elements and isotopes in seawater provides important tools to quantify carbon fluxes and circulation in the ocean and their impact on climate change, while studying the distribution of trace elements and isotopes in marine sediments provides the needed temporal context to distinguish between man induced climatic trends and recurring natural cycles.
