Terrestrial Mammal Conservation

Addressing the global biodiversity crisis requires effective monitoring to guide conservation decisions across large spatial scales. Terrestrial mammals are a key management target given their ecological and socioeconomic importance, wide-ranging populations, and sensitivity to human disturbances. My CRC program will improve methods for monitoring terrestrial mammals and advance understanding of their responses to environmental impacts. My lab will: (1) establish a camera trap network to develop, coordinate, and share robust methods for collecting and analysing mammal data; and (2) use landscape experiments to test hypotheses about the regulation and vulnerability of mammal populations and communities, and the effectiveness of management actions.
